Columbian World's Fair, Chicago, 1892-1893. Two Choice Silver Spoons. Teaspoon size or larger, the first with bust of the famed navigator, with "World's Columbian Exposition" in cartouche below; reverse of handle with facing bust of Isabella. Bowl with design of the Santa Maria. Length: 5-3/4". The other a Renaissance-style spoon, with in-the-round figure of Columbus resting hand on anchor, atop spiral-twisted stem, and scalloped bowl. Length: 5-1/8". Both finely preserved, and lovely examples of their kind. Lot of 2.

Back of handle with view of the Government Building, while bowl with scene of Columbus presenting Indians to Isabella's court. Other two with frontal busts of Columbus at top. One bowl with view of the Administrative Building, the other with the Ferris Wheel. Plus, in old, original velvet-lined box, a set of six Columbus spoons, identical but for differing designs in bowls: each being one of the major buildings. Spoon: 5-7/8"- 4-3/4". Second, with handle having figure Isabella; on back, the ship, Santa Maria. The lightly gilt bowl with image of the Women's Building. Last, a similar spoon, but with figure of Columbus, atop globe inscribed 1492. Bowl with American eagle straddling the hemisphere, and "World's Columbian Exposition, Chicago, 1893." Columbian World's Fair, Chicago, 1892-1893. Lot of Three Columbus & Civilization Medals. First, an ultra-high relief medal in silver or white metal. This allegorical masterpiece has a portrait of the aging explorer; flanking is a half-naked Indian maiden, who reaches above and across to grasp the hand of a demurely-clad goddess of civilization. The reverse shows a winged divinity, bringing the gifts of prosperity, commerce, and enlightenment to the cowering natives at the lower right. In the far background, a nimbus of radiance emanates from the Capitol building in Washington. Finely preserved, with faint toning and proof-like fields. Diameter: 58 mm. In custom plastic frame. In addition, is another example, but in bronze and smaller. The third, in white metal, has the same allegorical reverse, but simpler obverse, with closely similar Columbus portrait. Diameters: 59 mm. Both superbly preserved, although the second shows a few minor abrasions. Lot of 3.

Columbian World's Fair, Chicago, 1892-1893. Another large and handsome Columbus medal. While not actually a memento of the Fair, this medal is directly related to the superb medal preceding. The reverse, now different, shows Saint George contending with the dragon. Dated 1922, the Latin legend seems to express the hope that the earth and mankind can normalize after the apocalyptic "Great War." Diameter: 4". Beautifully preserved, with soft matte patina to the gilding.

Columbian World's Fair, Chicago, 1892-1893. Three Exceptional "Landing" Medals. Two in aluminum, one in white metal -- all with notable renditions of Columbus claiming the New World for Spain. One of the aluminum pieces, the so-called Fair Dollar, the reverse with a choice aerial view of Chicago and the Fair. The other with a splendid bust of Liberty left, and the white metal piece with the dome of the Administration Building. All pieces in exceptional state of preservation. Diameters: 44 mm. - 50 mm.

Columbian World's Fair, Chicago, 1892-1893. Fantastic Framed Display of Admission Tickets. Includes six pass tickets,classic examples engraved by the American Banknote Company, with portrait vignettes of: George Washington, Handel, Ben Franklin, Columbus, Abe Lincoln, and an Indian chief in war bonnet. An addition, there are examples each of a Children's Special Ticket, a Single Day ticket, a Chicago Day ticket, and a Manhattan Day ticket, the last two with ticket stubs attached. Not framed, an additional ticket bearing Lincoln's portrait. Tickets appear to be pristine, sharply printed, with clean bright colors. Frame size: 15-1/8" x 17-1/4".

Columbian World's Fair, Chicago, 1892-1893. Two Ribbons with Original Paper Backing. On white ground, beneath Fair's emblem, in various colors, has the 400th Anniversary of Columbus' landing, with a scene of two of his ships laying at anchor near the Indian-inhabited shore. The second ribbon celebrates Independence Day at the Fair. The ribbons complete, one still attached to the paper by the original short pins. Both with faint soiling and slight yellowing. Both papers with pin marks; one rather weak at the crease. Nevertheless, they remain particularly fine, and rare to be seen this complete. Ribbon Lengths: 8", 7".

Included are 2 pictorial guides: World's Columbian Exposition, Descriptive Text, Site, and Buildings, by Chisholm Brothers Publishers; along with World's Columbian Exposition, Chicago. By John Flinn, The Best Things to be Seen at the World's Fair, Officially Authorized Guideand by C. E. Banks, The Artistic Guide to Chicago and the World's Columbian Exposition, Photo Publishing, 1893. Lastly, a lot of 9 newspapers or supplements dealing with the Fair. Most are dated to October 1892 and 1893. Books average good or better, with occasional defects, the chromolitho views very well preserved. The newspapers generally fine, some with stains or chipping.

Columbian World's Fair, Chicago, 1892-1893. A Plethora of Printed Items. A variety of printed items, the most important being: a Portfolio of Photographs of the World's Fair Art Series, Series Nos. 1-16; oversized (11" x 13-1/2"). Overall clean, in fine condition, with gray wrap covers, some of which have detached. Also, a steel engraving: "Dawn Revealing the New World to Columbus," with minor edge soiling and light foxing. Also, a spectacular color chromolitho of an aerial view of the Fair; open size: 7-1/2" x 19-3/4", hinged center (edge loss to one side, minor chips and tears). A similar, colorful fold-out calender for 1892(?), framed, with child-like characters representing different countries in their national costume. Lastly, 2 woven silk ribbons for Columbus Day, 1892, a public school celebration. Both with same image of Columbus and similar added (contemporary) gold braid and fringe.

Columbian World's Fair, Chicago, 1892-1893. A Lot of House Wares. Most amusing, a chrome or nickel plated pickle fork, with mostly hand-painted (floral arabesques) porcelain handle, marked, "Souvenir Chicago 1893, Eat Wichert's Pickles." Plus, a little thimble, with "World's Columbian Exposition" in raised ornate script. Also, a glass tumbler with image of the Administration Building, with "Grandma… 1893," hand engraved on the back. A miniature "shot" mug, ruby-flashed, and etched with "Worlds Fair 1893 / Agnes." A pewter(?) napkin ring, "World's Fair, '93, Chicago. And finally, "The Last Nail," a mechanical pencil shaped as a large nail, symbolizing the final nail that completed construction of the Women's Building at the Fair. Columbian World's Fair, Chicago, 1892-1893. The St. Gaudens / Barber Official Award Medal, in Bronze or Bronze Plate. The obverse, by St. Gaudens, has Columbus armor-clad and looking heavenward as he steps on land. The reverse, by U.S. Mint engraver Charles Barber, shows two angels flanking globe and ship. In choice Extremely Fine condition, with minor dent to edge. Size: 3". In addition, two more medals, both the same, but one in bronze and one white metal: obverse with portrait of the Navigator; the reverse with twenty-two U.S. Presidential portraits around a central one of Washington. Three ambitiously patriotic examples, of differing sizes but all using the same art, commemorate Columbus and George Washington, and the Pilgrim's landing, plus the signing of the Declaration of Independence! Columbian World's Fair, Chicago, 1892-1893. A Group of Fair Memento Badges. Two have globes, and another likewise displays the ship, Santa Maria but is designed like a sheriff's badge. Another, similar, but with portrait of Columbus. One more portrait piece has the Machinery Hall on reverse. Last, and best, an aluminum disc showing the explorer next to a globe, and pointing to America; the reverse with landing scene and a view of the Administration Building. This looped to a dramatic patriotic eagle, in bronze and once silver plated. All show varying degrees of use -- some less, some more. Cf. Rossen & Kaduck, p. 26, nos. 14, 15, 16.

On white ground, beneath Fair's emblem, black and white portrait of the corsage-drape bust of Mrs. Potter Palmer, and scene of Women's building at bottom. The second, in black, blue, red, gold, and yellow, has the 400th Anniversary of Columbus' landing, with the appropriate scene below. Columbian World's Fair, Chicago, 1892-1893. Three More Ribbons, One on Original Paper Backing. On white ground, in black, a detailed view of the Administration Building. This made by W.H. Grant of Coventry, England. The second ribbon, still attached to its paper backing (with antique short pin), has another version of Columbus' landing. The third ribbon with view of the imposing Hall of Machinery and a locomotive below. The first two ribbons nicely preserved. The last improperly washed, causing the red coloring to run. Columbian World's Fair, Chicago, 1892-1893. A Postal Rarity. A "Columbian Souvenir Stamp Book." The narrow, vertical pocket album in finely made tan leather, with each exteriorcover having a large mica window in which are laid down two U.S. Columbus stamps. The front with 1¢ and 2¢ stamps, the stamp's vignettes with Columbus sighting land, and the Landing Scene, which is replicated on so many of the Fair's souvenirs. The back cover with 3¢ and 4¢ stamps, having the "Flag Ship of Columbus," and the "Fleet of Columbus." Laid within the album's glassine pages are recent supplements of 5¢, 6¢, 8¢, and 15¢ stamps, in modern stamp capsules. These stamps with scenes of Columbus soliciting aid of Isabella, being welcomed at Barcelona, being restored to favor, and announcing his discovery to their Majesties. Album stamps pristine, but lightly faded. Interior stamps crisp and vivid, but all show hinge marks. The leather album Very Fine plus, a few of the glassine pages a bit loose. Size: 3-1/2" x 1-3/4". Interesting and rare!

Columbian World's Fair, Chicago, 1892-1893. Ferris Wheel Lot, comprised of three medals: two "dollar"-sized, in aluminum, and a larger in darkly patinated bronze or copper plate. Each, on one side, has the view of the wheel, those on the two coins being closely similar. The smaller of the "dollars" has the reverse, five other views of the important pavilions or buildings. The other two pieces each display a view of the Administration building. The Aluminum items exceptionally preserved; the other with variegated coloring to the copper. Columbian World's Fair, Chicago, 1892-1893. Group of Eight Mostly Promotional Medals from the Fair. Five in aluminum, with three in bronze or brass, and generally of dollar size. Different is that with frontal face of Queen Isabella, and view of the Women's Building on the reverse (women's recognition and rights rising?). Two from Michigan's exhibits, including the famous "World Champion Load of Logs," showing a pair of drays pulling a dray filled with a pyramid of logs. Two brasses from the U.S Mint exhibit. Another brass showing the Electrical Building, and an aluminum with aerial view of the fair grounds. Last, and best, a political token for the Democratic presidential nominee for 1892 -- Grover Cleveland, along with Illinois' Adlai Stevenson (father of the future presidential candidate of the same name). The other side of the token has a globe with scene of Columbus claiming land for Spain. Two pieces are holed. Condition ranges from Very Fine to Brilliantly Uncirculated. Lot of 8 pieces.

Columbian World's Fair, Chicago, 1892-1893. Large Imprinted Silk Handkerchief. Printed in dark sepia, a splendid aerial view of the Fair's main pavilions, with two battleships in the lake and an excursion balloon aloft. The edge borders printed in solid green. Added, at one corner, the name of W. Stoltz in fine, white embroidery. Scarf nicely framed and preserved, with a touch of fading and a bit of light soiling along the one noticeable crease. Viewable size: 14-13/4" square. Scarce!

Columbian World's Fair, Chicago, 1892-1893. Lot of Two Rolled Out Coins. One a seated Liberty dime, the other a V-Nickel. Each of the now oval planchets with raised inscription, in three lines: "COLUMBIAN / 1893 / EXPOSITION." The roll outs are in very fine to extremely fine condition, and lightly toned. Widths: 30 mm., 33 mm. Lot of 2 coins.

The nickel still shows a date of 1893. Coin collectors will note with dismay that the dime is dated 1853, no arrows, which has a value today, if even only in fine condition, of $90! We note a similar dime, recently offered, of common date, and valued at $125-$250!!

Columbian World's Fair, Chicago, 1892-1893. Souvenir Coin in Aluminum, with Photo Miniature of Admission Ticket. Lot of two. The coins identical, with three-quarter facing bust of the explorer, and recessed inset on reverse to hold photo image. The albumin prints differing -- one of ticket having Lincoln's portrait, the other with that of Columbus. The clear glassy coverings over the photos have not yellowed, so are likely thin sheets of mica. The coins are quite pristine, showing little signs of handling. Diameters: 2". Lot of 2.

Columbian World's Fair, Chicago, 1892-1893. Group of Three Medals, in Aluminum, White Metal, and Bronze. The largest, in white metal, is an Italian production for distribution at the Fair. The obverse has Columbus standing at the tiller of his ship, his hand being held by the personification of luck and discovery, who points the way. The reverse with American eagle, a view of the Administration Building, and elaborate cartouche commemorating the event. The other two pieces are identical issues, American made, just in differing metal. Each with fine portrait of Italy's famous son, and elaborate allegorical scene on back. On a terraced vista Columbia sits with shield at side, and gazes out to three tiny ships in the distance. Liberty, with Indian feathers, points to the ships. Below, an aerial view of the fair, with Italianate buildings, and ships upon the river. Some trivial wear evident on the bronze, the other two pieces quite pristine. Diameters: 50 mm., 64 mm. Columbian World's Fair, Chicago, 1892-1893. Three Aluminum Tokens Promoting Metal Technologies. Each with different portrait of Columbus, with two promoting the non-tarnishing, ductile and other wonderful and useful traits of aluminum. The third from the mining interests of Colorado, with their slogan, "Free Coinage of Silver." Besides these, one more medal with distinguished Renaissance-style portrait of the explorer in high relief, the Administration Building on the reverse. With glossy black finish on spelter. Columbian World's Fair, Chicago, 1892-1893. Two Porcelain Dishes. One medium size, the other smaller, and each of hexagonal form, with scalloped edges enriched with gold filigree. Center on larger has transfer print of the Machinery Hall, the other of the Government Building. Both German-made, with blue marks of S over crossed sabers, suggestive of Meissen ware. This with view of the "Building for Manufacturers and Liberal Arts." Intact and pristine. And one more, but this from the St. Louis Fair of 1904. Columbian World's Fair, Chicago, 1892-1893. Lot of Three Intact Beribboned Medals. All with common motif of Columbus landing scene, and red, white, and blue ribbons. The largest, with brass bars for pin and bail, has portrait of the Explorer; back has scene of Statue of Liberty, and U.S. battleship flanked by sailor and soldier. Another New York medal, has profile bust of Columbus on obverse of white metal medallion. The last and smallest with silver-plated, frame surrounding ribbon. The medal with commemorative inscription on back. All items intact and complete. Ribbons with usual soiling, the hanging bars tarnished, but medals choice, with little wear. Lengths: 2-1/8" - 3-7/8". Scarce in this condition.

The largest and finest once more uses the already seen design of Columbus at the tiller, plus a fine rendition of the Santa Maria on the back. The other two are similar but showing instead a bust of Columbus, and a full-length figure. Last, a partial length of a linked bracelet of stamped discs, with Columbus, buildings, and of course the Santa Maria. Conditions range from Very Fine to Choice. Diameters: 31mm.-50mm. World's Columbian Exposition, Chicago, 1893. You Too Can Play with a Full Deck! A set of the Official Columbian Souvenir Playing Cards, by G.W. Clark. The back with traditional scene of Columbus' landing, within a border of ornate arabesques, all in dark blue on white. The suite faces spell out the number and type, plus the corners show a miniature of the traditional suite, plus each card has at the center a different vignette of the Fair's architectural attractions. Set of 52 cards, plus one joker and one blank-faced card. Complete with original box. Box tattered, with some losses, but the cards lightly, if ever, handled and are crisp and clean, the colors remaining bright. Rarely seen this nice, don't let this one shuffle by you.

Three Handsome "Coin Glass" Goblets. United States, 1890's. The clear glasses substantial, and made for heavy use. Base of goblets formed from three-part molds, having fluted stems, and the bases are formed into a faceted hexagons. Centered in the facets, and alternating front and back views, is a molded image of a U.S. Half Dollar of 1892. One glass with chipping to underside of foot, the rest perfect. Heights: 6-7/8". Interesting and rare. Lot of 3. Perhaps a spin off from the merchandising being produced for the Columbian Exposition, in Chicago, at the same date.

  U.S World's Fair Odds 'n' Ends. All kinds of stuff! A "Columbus Landing" dish in cast metal, bronze or bronze plate, the dish shell-shaped, with the standard version of Columbus claiming the New World for Spain. Also a more elaborate stamped dish, in silver plate, with central bust of the famed Explorer, plus, in three divisions, views of the Machinery, Administration, and Mining Buildings. Also, two nickel-plated brass match cases, one from the Columbian Exposition, the other the St. Louis Fair. Both with all the usual trappings of souvenir memorabilia. Another rmatchbox holder, Chinese, in blue and white cloisonneé, with central medallion, in "New Jade," of a leaf. Perhaps datable to the 1930's. A small, or little girl's hand mirror souvenir from the St. Louis Fair, gold-toned copper, with raised Art Nouveau ornament on the back and handle. Another item from the St. Louis Fair, a small cast sculpture of a recalcitrant donkey, sitting with head down, and the legend, "Show me, I'm from Missouri. World's Fair, St. Louis, 1904." Lastly, a group of eight rolled out Lincoln cents, from 1968, with various subjects. Most of the metal objects show a good deal of use. The donkey repaired at the ears. Worth a look, some fun stuff here. Lot of 15 pieces.

Jamestown Tercentenniel Exposition, 1607-1907. A Fine Exposition Medal in Gilt Bronze. The obverse bears an exceptional, sensitive bust of Pocahontas, with feathers in hair, a skin cloak, and claw necklace. The back shows ships in the landing expedition of Captain John Smith. Medal virtually pristine, with abundant mint luster. Rare in the gilt version, even more so when accompanied by the original government-issued paper envelope. Along with this, a rolled Lincoln penny (1910) commemorating Franklin Delano Roosevelt, as 32nd President, and his New Deal and other projects of 1934. Plus two souvenir "rolled pennies" depicting "Standing Rock," of Wisconsin's natural wonder, The Dells. These were actually struck this way, imitating a rolled out Indian cent, even though they were still made in the early 20th century. One pristine, the second less so. A nice little lot of exonoumia.

Panama-Pacific International Exposition, 1915. A Fair Amount of Paraphernalia. Some fun odds 'n' ends. Included are: a pair of opening day badges. The bars marked "Participant," on blue, orange, and red ribbon, on gold and stars 'n' stripes-edged badge: "Admit One, Opening Day, Feb. 20, 1915." And by way of contrast, a closing day admittance badge, the bar marked, "Good-Bye," on blue and white ribbon dated Dec. 4, 1915, with badge showing well-dressed lady waving a hankie at the Fair. Another smaller badge, in full color, emphasizing the theme of ships pouring the through the newly opened Panama Canal. Also, a silver-plated soup spoon with scene of Canal, California State Seal, and a view of the Fair on the handle. A embossed copper frying pan-shaped ashtray, featuring the "Tower of Jewels,"with globe and California poppies at the fore. A celluloid letter opener from the California Fruit Canners Association, exhorting the Grand Prize ribbon Del Monte won at the Fair ("Fruits of Victory!"). Also, a flat "stitching needle," an advertising souvenir from Singer Sewing Company. And last, from the Pan-American Exposition of 1901, a little pewter shot cup(?), with running buffalo as its emblem. Sizes: 1-1/4" - 9". A pleasant group, but should be examined. Most show some to noticeable use. Two of the badge ribbons have fraying. Lot of 9 pieces.

  Panama-Pacific International Exposition, 1915. Lovely Silk Souvenir Handkerchief. Red on silvery off white, the effect being red and not quite pink. Central view of the "Tower of Jewels,"with scrolled banner above: "Panama Pacific International Exposition. San Francisco, 1915." Additionally, sprays of flowers woven into the borders, and a kneeling allegorical figure in each corner. Bandana about 19" square, in original (now tattered) paper envelope. Silk clean and extremely fine in appearance, but is cracking at the creases, and so in need of conservation. Nevertheless a rare and desirable survival.

  St. Louis World's Fair, 1904, and Panama-Pacific International Exposition, 1915. Lot of Brochures and Guides. Included are the "Official" photo album of the St. Louis Fair, with green paper cover, gray album pages, and tipped in gravure "photos" of the sights. By the Official Photographic Company. With brown paper covers, a smaller photo guide: "Sights, Scenes, and Wonders, of the World's Fair," with the two best items being artist's renditions of two rides or exhibits: "Over the Sea in an Airship," a wonderful Jules Vernesian contraption of balloon, wings and windows, and "Under and Over the Sea," a submarine tour. Plus, a St. Louis postcard showing the Administration Building. From the Panama-Pacific Exposition: "Souvenir Views of the Panama-Pacific International Exposition, San Francisco, California, " a larger album, with gray paper covers, and choice views and informative captions. A similar, smaller album, "Panama-Pacific International Exposition, Illustrated in Color," with deliciously garish, tinted b & w illustrations (it makes one think of colorized movies). Lastly, a narrow brochure, "Condensed Facts concerning the Panama-Pacific Universal Exposition." Materials generally fine of better, a couple with creases or chipped corners. Filled with many quaint and charming photo illustrations of the Fair grounds, vistas, exhibits, arts and buildings. The photographic views show that each subsequent exposition was making better use of electric illumination for greater display effects. A great lot for arousing feelings of nostalgia.

  St. Louis, Louisiana Purchase Exposition, 1904. Lot of Three Aluminum Objects. One, a circular box containing 6 souvenir "coins" of the Fair. One in brass, the rest also aluminum. Each side containing a view of the major exposition "palaces." Box and proof-like coins pristine. Box Width: 39 mm. Next, a cased note pad, the hinged and decorated covers once more in aluminum. Pristine and intact, complete with original green paper pad within. Size: 2-1/2" x 4-1/8". Last, a penknife, with two small folding steel blades. Aluminum handle with raised ornament of jugate busts of Jefferson and Napoleon, and views of the Palace of Electricity and the Cascade Gardens on one side, with Liberal Arts and Machinery buildings flanking a fleur-de-lis on the other. Blades marked "St. Lawrence Cutlery." Knife well used, but still fine overall. Length: 2-3/4". Lot of 9 pieces.

St. Louis, Louisiana Purchase Exposition, 1904. Large Bronze Prize Medals. Each with same medallic centers of Liberty sheltering the semidraped maiden, Louisiana, on the obverse, and the American eagle and twin flanking dolphins on the reverse. However, shapes range from triangular shield, as preceding lot, to cruciform within square, to U.S. heraldic shield, and circular center medallion only. Inscriptions designate these as "Grand Prize," "Silver Medal," "Bronze Medal,"and like the gilt example, "Commemorative Medal."Pieces show slight to negligible wear, and each with a lovely deep chestnut patina. Medal widths: 2-1/2" - 2-3/4". Lot of 4 pieces. An exceptional set of these rarely offered awards.

St. Louis, Louisiana Purchase Exposition, 1904. St. Louis by the Spoonful! Two fine sterling spoons in teaspoon size, plus two in demitasse. One large and the two small are the same handle style, consisting of frontal heads Thomas Jefferson and Napoleon flanking the Water Tower, and below on stem, a star-encircled fleur-de-lis. Subjects on bowls: the Agricultural Building, and two versions of the Festival Hall and Cascade Gardens. The latter, plus the Missouri Building is seen on three handle backs, while the Eads Bridge is on the fourth. Variations on these themes are seen on four additional spoons in silver plate -- plus the American eagle and the city's seal. Bowls have: the Palace of Liberal Arts, Palace of Electricity, and the Festival Hall. Spoon sizes are: two table or soup spoons, a teaspoon, and a demitasse. Silver spoons exceptionally preserved, the plate pieces mostly so, with one showing very obvious wear to the plating. Lengths: 4-1/4" - 5-1/2". Lot of 8 pieces.

St. Louis, Louisiana Purchase Exposition, 1904. Three Fine Fair Spoons in Silver. Spoons have bowls of soup or tablespoon size. One, copyrighted by Bert Ball in 1902, with elaborate pictorial handle showing the advance of transportation in the area. Back of handle engraved, "Helen, Sept. 28, 1904." Bowl has the Festival Hall and Cascade Gardens. The other two feature the city seal of a paddelwheel steamship, and either a portrait of Pierre Laclede Liguest or Thomas Jefferson, while each has Eads Bridge on the back. Jefferson spoon has Palace of Liberal Arts on bowl, and is finely gilt in areas. Other features Mines & Metallurgy Building. Silver spoons all exceptionally preserved. Lengths: 5-3/4 - 6". Lot of 3. Very nice pieces!

St. Louis, Louisiana Purchase Exposition, 1904. A Fair Group of Button and Silks. New for this Fair was the use of celluloid-covered badges. Here we have a number, alone,or in combination with ribbons. One with red center having a section rail track, and emblazoned "Missouri Pacific Railway." Another full color badge, with Missouri State Building for Missouri Day, Oct. 11. Another metal and celluloid badge, this (like the paperweight seen elsewhere) with photo inset of the painting of the Cascade Gardens, "St. Louis" above. Best, is a humorous button showing a donkey bucking off a pretty, scantily clad young lady, with this exposition's slogan around: "Meet Me at the World's Fair." Ribbons with badges: badge with Fair's fleur-de-lis flag, in red, white, blue, and gold, the attached ribbons colored likewise; one more ribbon in the same colors, this one wide, with wire fringe at base, and swagged flag and fleur-de-lis bar at top; Nebraska state ribbon, with State Seal in color, the ribbon a U.S. Flag; and a veteran's exposition ribbon in yellowed and soiled creme-colored satin, for the " L. of G.A.R., Missouri," with Louisiana Purchase badge having star with busts of Jefferson and Napoleon, and historic flags in each of the arms. Lastly a nicely framed product silk, literally, for Chardonnet, of Besançon, France, in blue on white, with crossed American and French flags, and trademark emblem of two caterpillars flanking a retort flask. Ribbons generally very fine or better, but do show some age. Badges very good to excellent. Sizes: 1-1/4" - 8-3/4". An interesting and varied assortment. Lot of 9 pieces.

St. Louis, Louisiana Purchase Exposition, 1904. Large and Attractive Gilt Bronze Medal. Medal a rounded, triangular shield, with wreathed initials and fleur-de-lys in the respective corners, with shield enclosing circular, central design. Obverse has finely modeled design of soberly clad Liberty, sheltering under the American flag the semidraped maiden, Louisiana. Reverse with splendid American eagle, wings spread, standing on rectangular frieze, with twin flanking dolphins below, with legend: "Commemorative Medal, Louisiana Purchase Exposition." In original morocco-like cardboard box, burgundy-colored, with velvet liner and satin lid. But for two fly speck defects in the gilding, medal perfect, and as struck. Box missing part of rim on lid. Medal width: 2-3/4".

A Remarkable Set of World's Fair Flatware, in Wood Flatware Box. New York, 1939. Issued in silver plate by William Rogers. In the set are two groups of 12 spoons wherein each bowl features a different exhibit or building: Administration, Aviation, Textile, Georgian Section in Court of the United States, Consumer Interests, Hall of Medicine and Public Health, New York State Amphitheater, Railroad Transportation, Food Exhibition, United States Government, Marine Transportation, and New York City Exhibit Hall. Comprising the balance of the set are: 8 dinner knives (with stainless blades), a condiment spoon, a cheese spreader, 7 butter knives, and 8 each of soup spoons, salad forks, dinner forks, and finally, 2 large serving spoons. These pieces have only the famed Trylon and Perisphere on the stepped and angular handles. Utensils range from pristine, with dark, iridescent toning, some with light use or cleaning. Average Length about: 6-1/8". Flatware comes in what is said to be the original wood box of issue, with blue felt interior, with lid in gold lacquer and base in brown, each with banded patterning resembling birch. Rare to find a set with the original box!

Spoons in original box of issue, and are mostly pristine, with dark, iridescent toning. Length: 6-1/16". Rare in this condition, especially with the box. Most amazing is that back then the postage for the nearly one pound pack of spoons was a penny and a half!!!
